Hex games are about as popular as an outbreak of myxomatosis at a rabbit convention, but Panzer General 3D is about to change all that. As its name implies, it's got spinny-rotatey 3D, and some of the best graphics we've seen in any turn-based game. Previous versions were based around units gaining experience and becoming veteran troops.
This time round the game is based around unit commanders, so you can wean your fledgling squaddie up to a battle-hardened general, put him in command of the troops and go kill. Each leader has a speciality tanks, planes, artillery etc , and if you stick them with their chosen subject all sorts of special abilities pop up extra rate of fire, special bombing techniques etc.
The game offers a large number of scenarios and eight different campaign routes to chose from, so there's a huge variety of gameplay here. And, as with the previous ones, when playing as the Germans you get to invade America.
Which is nice. The only flaw is that you're fixed to playing one side in each scenario, so you can't swap roles and rewrite history. The multiplayer aspect works extremely well, with time limits so that you don't have to wait an hour for your opponent to play his turn. I did try to run it 2 ways. Installed with an ISO mounted drive on the laptop, and completely installed into a folder on OneDrive from Office of my Windows 7 machine.
I uninstalled the unregistered game from my laptop before trying to run it from OneDrive. Either way, it won't run on Windows 10 bit. The game looks like it's going to start, then just returns to the desktop with no errors displayed. I run it as administrator and select to run it in Windows 7 compatibility mode I need to try again with a code or cracked version?
Anybody got one? Not even the CD-cover or manual has the code on them. I found the registry entries in Windows 7, but none have the code I used to register the game. Some of the registry entries are hairy AF! I already have the patched-version on OneDrive, including the Patch folder itself. But, UGH! I want to be able to play it when I'm not anywhere near my desktop. That's why I can't use a direct-connect from my laptop to my desktop through my modem.
I wouldn't play that game from my laptop. Oh, and certain Microsoft things refuse to use my default browser and open Microsoft Edge. Did you know they truncate the user folder name to characters, so it looks stupid as hell when you first install the O. No, I don't like that at all. The game is in the era that becomes more problematic, but if it was running on Win7 64bit, it is very likely also be compatible with Win10 64bit.
Two of them run on my AMD machine. Go figure.
